Dodge City, Kansas (KAKE) - The Salvation Army of Dodge City is carrying out its mission of ‘doing the most good’, especially in this difficult time.

“It’s been a drastic change and a challenging one because first of all, our source of income stopped,” said Captain Roberto Davila.

The pandemic forced them to close their thrift stores in March. Which makes up about 60% of the money they use to pay employees, run their food pantry, and provide emergency assistance.

“So, once you cut that source, you’re using your little reserves if you have, to keep helping the community,” said Captain Davila.

But even still, they’re feeding emergency personnel every day and going above and beyond for people in need.

“We started servicing the community with food boxes. A pantry we always do. Food boxes, we started helping the elderly because that was the most vulnerable and sensitive part here in Dodge. So, we would take it to them,” said Captain Davila.

To help with their mission, KAKE TV and DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers are honored to have them as this week’s, “Wins for Kansas.”

“On behalf of DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers, we’re excited to recognize the Salvation Army of Dodge City. Thank you for everything you’re doing to help those in need in your community, especially in this difficult time. We’re excited to present you with a check for $500 in recognition of your great work,” said Richard James of DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers.

“I want to thank KAKE TV and DeVaughn James for the wonderful donation of $500. We appreciate that effort you guys made to help us all the way here in Dodge City. It is a blessing,” said Captain Davila.
