2 dead, 4 hospitalized after head-on crash on Kansas highway
Authorities say the drivers of two vehicles were killed when their cars collided head-on in southeast Kansas.
The accident happened at around 10:15 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 400 west of Parsons in Labette County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a Lincoln sedan was heading west and crossed into eastbound traffic. The Lincoln then struck an oncoming Chevy Malibu.
The driver of the Lincoln, 20-year-old Matayea Lomax, of Pittsburg, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her 19-year-old passenger was not hurt.
The 44-year-old woman driving the Malibu, Melinda Smith, of Neodesha, died at the scene. A 31-year-old male passenger and three children, ages 4, 7 and 8, were transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The patrol's online crash log does not state what caused Lomax to veer into oncoming traffic.
