A 35-year-old Wichita man was shot and killed hours after the birth of his daughter, his family says.

The Wichita Police Department says just before 3:00 Sunday morning, they were called to a home in the 1700 block of South Glenn. They found James Winston unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

"Any time we have a case of this nature, the cooperation with the community helps solves these crimes. So if anyone saw anything or heard anything, please call 911 or call Crime Stoppers and provide any information," says Sgt. Matt Balthazor, Wichita Police Department.

Winston's sister, Latasha Kines, says they just lost their dad a month ago. She remembers her brother for the love he had for his children.

"He was a stand-up guy, you can't go wrong with my bro. He was a loving person, comedian, always telling jokes, there's no way, there's no way."

Winston leaves behind nine sisters and six kids, including a girl born Saturday. Kines says two of his kids actually lived in the home with her brother, but they weren't there when he was killed. The family just wants to know what happened in the final minutes of Winston's life.

"If anybody can answer any of the questions that the detectives, the police, anybody have, please feel free to call and let somebody know something. We need answers. We need closure."

The Wichita Police Department says a friend of Winston's found him in the home unresponsive and the 45-year-old woman immediately called 911. If you have any information, you're asked to call crime stoppers at 267-2111.
