TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - North Topeka Arts District organizers want to make the area more visitor-friendly.

NOTO co-chair Anita Wolgast spoke at Thursday's Shawnee County Commission meeting. She asked them to consider purchasing a vacant lot at 828 S. Kansas Avenue. Wolgast says the lot would provide easier access to NOTO's main strip.

Wolgast says she envisions having a walkway with murals painted on the buildings that border the lot. She said it could be another way to attract people to the growing district.

Commissioners approved purchasing the lot. It will cost almost $20,000 from the county's general fund.

For those who see NOTO Art district as a place with dumpy bars, has not seen what has been happening there in a while. There are two bars. Ruffnecks being one of them. And its not a dump. Its an awesome bar full of cool art and friendly people. I don't know about the other bar. But I have had my art studio across the street from them for the for the passed two weeks and haven't seen any kind of trouble. (If your having trouble with fighting in the bars maybe you shouldn't drink in the bars.) Ruffnecks is a name that scares away some. But its good people that own that place. We had the Topeka Art Guild meeting in there a few months ago. It can't be that bad.

@Kevin.... Re: your comment on 'bums' --- remember.... "unless for the grace of God go you and I.". We are called to cloth the poor, feed the hungry, and love our brother. Careful there, brother....

Hmmm...828 S Kansas Avenue is a bit of a distance from the NOTO district. 828 N Kansas Avenue appears to have a building on it. Where is this lot?
