Topeka (WIBW) - An artist and former Topekan, well known for her depictions of Kansas landscapes, has died.

Joan Foth succumbed to ovarian cancer last Thursday in Chimayo, New Mexico.

The New York native moved to the Capital City in 1952 to take over as assistant director of the Kansas Museum of History. In 1958, she joined the faculty at Washburn, where she taught for the next quarter- century.

Her husband, J. Richard Foth, a chief judge with the Kansas Court of Appeals, preceded her in death.

A memorial service is planned for a week from Saturday.

Several of Foth's works remain in the collections at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library and at Washburn's Mulvane Art Museum.
