(WIBW) - A preliminary report on a plane crash near Lake Perry says the pilot reported engine trouble before going down.

The July 1 crash of the Beech killed the pilot, Gregory Collis and his passenger, Pindi Williams, both from upstate New York.

A preliminary NTSB report says the plane had taken off from the downtown Kansas City airport and was climbing when Collis told air traffic control he was losing an engine.

The report says the propeller assembly was found in the middle of a ground scar, east of the main wreckage and was buried a foot in the ground. The engine and forward fuselage were crushed.

The report does not list a probable cause.
