Topeka (WIBW) - Hundreds of Kansans hooked up with their long-lost cash and property Tuesday night.

WIBW-TV hosted State Treasurer Dennis McKinney and the staff from the Unclaimed Property Division. They set up a special phone bank to take calls to search for people's unclaimed property.

The State of Kansas has more than $200 million in cash and property that it's holding until it finds the rightful owners. More than $9 million of that comes from Shawnee County alone. Items can include old stocks, closed bank accounts or utility deposits, as well as items from abandoned safe deposit boxes.

The hotline opened at 4 pm Tuesday. Through 10:30pm, it had received 40,354 through the hotline and a special link on www.wibw.com. The calls resulted in 978 potential claims totaling $117,854.

The largest single claim was $4958. It was from a woman who called in and found a check under an old Rural Route address that had been converted to a 911 street address.

People who didn't call in Tuesday night can reach the office during normal business hours at 785-296-4165 or 800-432-0386. People can also search online at www.kansascash.com.
