Topeka (WIBW) - From Topeka to New York City, Mike Jerrick says his approach to being on the air has stayed the same.

The WIBW-TV alumnus visited the studios Friday. The Wichita native got his start at 13 News in the early 80s.

After three years in Topeka, he landed a job in Kansas City and was still in his 20s when he moved to New York.

Jerrick worked at Fox News and now co-hosts the national "Morning Show with Mike and Juliet," seen on Fox affiliates across the country.

Jerrick says his time in Topeka was valuable because he learned how to do every aspect of the local news business, from reporting and anchoring to camera and production work. He says he even tried his hand at weather and sports.

He says the lessons that stuck with him are the ones he learned from the viewers. He says the image that remains in his head whenever he goes on the air are the people like his mother.

"They don't want anything fake. They want you to be real," he said.

80s? I watched Mike Jerrick on the Early News Show when I was a boy in the 70s.
