Topeka (WIBW) - Launching a volunteer effort to fight graffiti earned one woman recognition Wednesday.

Philicia McKee of Keep America Beautiful Topeka/Shawnee County was named this month's Champion of Character.

Safe Streets and Topeka City of Character presented her the award Wednesday.

McKee organized dozens of volunteers to go into neighborhoods and clean up graffiti

She says she was overwhelmed by the award, since she volunteers just to make the community a better place.
