After three years of work, the trail around Lake Shawnee is almost complete.

Crews set the pedestrian bridge for the final unfinished section of the trail on the east side of the lake on Monday morning.

This is one of four bridges that make up the seven mile trail around the lake. When finished, the path will tie all of the different facilities at Lake Shawnee together.

The project is expected to be completely finished September 30.

Officials say the trail is environmentally friendly. The bridge planks are made from recycled plastic and the base under the concrete path is made from crumbled concrete recycled from the old Topeka Boulevard bridge.
