Topeka Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred early Friday morning.

Authorities say it happened in the 5200 block of SW West Drive at about 3:30am.

According to police a 17-year-old and a 12-year-old heard a knock at the door. When they answered the door two males were standing there, one of which showed a gun.

One of the suspects stayed with the victims while the other suspect took some property from the residence. The two suspects fled on foot.

No injuries were reported.

The suspects are described as two white males.

One is described as 5'9" weighing about 160 pounds - wearing blue jeans, a black shirt, and a red and black hat.

The second suspect is described as being about 5'7" and weighing about 150 pounds last seen wearing a black shirt, red and black checked shorts, and a black hat.

Ok I agree that they should not of opened the door at that time of morning. As a teenager I babysat children younger then 12 until all hours of the morning while the parents were out and I was younger then 17. So why does everyone think its such a big deal that a 17 and a 12 year old were home alone???? And why would they do anything to the parents thats just senseless......I think they need to check into what kind of friends these kids have could of been an inside job.

where were the parents? maybe they were working a second job to support the family because of the high cost of everything...that would be good, or maybe they were out partying risking their lives by going to a drinking establishment.maybe it was a single parent and working to make ends meet. it is not for us to ask, but the question is why was there someone knocking and waiting to rob them. that is the PROBLEM! Society is not good. they should have been working that second job to make ends meet instead of knocking at the door at 3:30 waiting to steal what someone else had.

Why would two kids answer a knock at the door at 3:30 in the morning. I am an adult and I wouldn't answer the door at that time unless it was someone I knew.
