Investigation Continues into Heartland Park Fatal Accident Save Email Print

Topeka Police are continuing to investigate a Sunday afternoon fatality accident.

At 4:30 p.m., Topeka Police responded to Heartland Park, 7530 SW Topeka, reference a vehicle accident that occurred in the parking lot.

A pick-up was leaving the parking area in a southwesterly direction, when it went on to the gravel portion of the road where four people were walking, striking two people.

Judy K. Brewster, 55, Muskogee, Okla., was transported by AMR to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later died at the hospital.

James C. Jenkins, 52, Muskogee, Okla., was life-flighted to a Kansas City area hospital with injuries considered to be life-threatening. His condition remains life-threatening as of Monday evening.

James Weiland, 63, Truesdale, Iowa, who was the driver of the pick-up was not injured, nor was his passenger, Marla Bechtel, 60, Alta, Iowa.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, though at this time alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
