As the school year winds down, one organization is making sure some hardworking students are recognized for their efforts.

Topeka High School's Truancy Support Group Wednesday night held a special event to recognized students who were previously identified as truant by USD 501.

The Topeka High students have improved attendance and grades during the 2007-2008 school year.

THS Truancy and Attendance Coordinator, Lysa Atkinson, said, "We picked this group of students because we knew that they needed some help. They didn't need everything. We knew there was a desire within them to succeed. We just had to help it along a little bit."

Summer school scholarships were also awarded at the group Wednesday night.
