Severe weather season is here, but Monday's tornado siren check left Shawnee County in silence.

Shawnee County Emergency Management says the sirens didn't go off during the regular noon Monday test. Emergency Management Director Dave Sterbenz says when crews did a battery change on a repeater, the reprogramming left only one side of active. The side not activated controlled the sirens. Sterbenz says it was reset, and the problem is taken care of.

He says he also discovered a back-up system in a separate tower in Topeka where he can set off the sirens manually, should the need ever arise.

The tornado sirens will be tested again at noon next Monday, April 28th.
