We are ending the year with a blast of winter.

A winter storm warning is in effect for parts of Western Kansas. Cities in the warning area include Garden City, Ness City, Scott City, Ulysses, Sublette, Oakley and Hill City. Five to eight inches of snow is possible.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for much of central Kansas. Cities in the advisory area include Wichita, Hutchinson, Salina, Great Bend, Medicine Lodge, McPherson and El Dorado.

A rain/snow mix has developed in Wichita and other parts of southern Kansas. It looks like it will be a rain/snow mix to light snow for Wichita all day Monday, while the rest of the state will see all snow.

By 6:30 a.m., Dodge City reported two inches of snow, while Meade recorded an inch and a half. Snow is also falling in Wichita and South Central Kansas.

Roads in Western Kansas are completely snowpacked. I-70 from Wakeeney to Manhattan is also snowpacked.

KAKEland Meteorologist Blake Smith says accumulations in Wichita will range from zero (if it stays as a rain/snow mix) to 2 inches. Cities in north central Kansas can expect 2 to 4 inches.

City of Wichita public works crews began applying salt and sand mixes to emergency routes, intersections, hills and curves around 7 a.m. The City says they will continue to treat roads until the wintry conditions end.
