Dozens of weather experts are planning to gather in Salina this spring to study thunderstorms.
The scientists and technicians from the Boulder, Colo.-based National Center for Atmospheric Research plan to arrive in Salina in April and stay for 71 days to take a close look at thunderstorms in the area.
Tim Rogers, executive director of the Salina Airport Authority, announced the Deep Convection 3 Project on Wednesday at the authority's board meeting.
NASA and a German-based science organization are also involved in the program, which will be at the airport from April 23 through July 3.
