Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Western Kansas

A severe thunderstorm watch for northwest Kansas is in effect until 4:00 a.m. Friday.

Storms could produce hail, dangerous lightning, and winds up to 70 miles-per-hour.

Eleven Kansas counties are included in a tornado watch.

The watch area includes counties in Western Kansas until 9:00 p.m. Cities in the watch area include Scott City, Colby & Goodland.

A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms producing tornadoes in and close to the watch area.

Managing Meteorologist Jay Prater is monitoring the conditions from the KAKEland WeatherPlex.

The counties included in this tornado watch are: Cheyenne, Greeley, Hamilton, Kearny, Logan, Rawlins, Scott, Sherman, Thomas, Wallace and Wichita (County).

The Wichita metro area is not included.
