UPDATE: Friday, April 27, 2012

The tornado watch that had been issued until 9:00 p.m. has been cancelled for Cowley, Harvey, McPherson, Sedgwick and Sumner counties.

Friday, April 27, 2012

A tornado watch has been issued for much of Central and Eastern Kansas, including Wichita and Sedgwick County. The watch is in effect until 9:00 p.m.

Cities in the watch area include Wichita, Salina, Winfield, El Dorado, Emporia and Topeka. Hutchinson and Reno County were dropped from the watch area before 4:00 p.m.

At 3:00 p.m., a line of storms started developing through North Central Kansas. Individual cells could produce tornadoes. By 4:30 the dryline had pushed east of Wichita, meaning the metro area is no longer under a severe weather threat.

A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in and close to the watch area.

Jay Prater and Hallie Shulman are monitoring conditions from the KAKEland WeatherPlex.
