Spots where boats normally dock on Kanopolis Lake have been fairly empty for the past year, according to Marina owner Bill Barrow.

He expects for the marina to fill up fast since the lake is now the highest it's been in a year.

"I think it's raised up four or five feet lately with the rain," said Del Mann, a Kanopolis resident.

He said he's no longer worried about scraping his boat on the lake floor since the lake is within three feet of where it should be.

Barrow knows that worry all too well. He helped pull boats off the water in the middle of July last year. That’s when the lake became too shallow for boats.

"It's like taking a big toy away. It's no fun," said Barrow.

Barrow described the near-full lake as exciting, even though he is busy making improvements to the marina.
