Residents of Lindsborg are learning they and the town may not be eligible for federal funding to clean up and repair damage caused by Monday's flooding.

City Administrator Greg DuMars told residents during an informational meeting Thursday evening that the chances of a Federal Emergency Management Agency-declared disaster in Lindsborg are slim. Because there was not significant damage to public infrastructure, he said, the city is also unlikely to receive state disaster assistance.

Adding to the frustration, most of the residents whose homes were damaged this week do not have flood insurance on their homes.

The McPherson County Commission voted today to proclaim a state of local disaster emergency exists following recent flooding. The move is a first step in the process of potentially receiving assistance to repair damage to public property and infrastructure.

Lindsborg received the most flood damage, estimated at close to $4 million.

Effective immediately all contractors operating in Lindsborg must register with the City for all work requiring a building permit. This measure is being taken to protect the citizens of the community from fraudulent contractors and scam artists.

The City has approved waiving all building permit and inspection fees associated with flood related repairs, renovation and rehabilitation. The building permit fees have been waived but building permits
are required.

The City of Lindsborg is holding a Public Information Meeting for the citizens affected by the flood. The meeting will focus on flood remediation efforts, resources for assistance, plus sanitation and health issues associated with a flood. It will be held in the Smoky Valley Middle School Auditorium tonight at 7:00.
