Joplin Helps Branson After Tornado

Friday, March 2, 2012

Joplin got a lot of help after a deadly tornado struck the southwest Missouri town in May. Now, it is returning the favor.

Police officers from Joplin are working in Branson after the EF2 tornado struck the tourist town early Wednesday. Joplin City Manager Mark Rohr says he has reached out to Branson to let them know his community is prepared to offer any assistance needed.

Cleanup in Branson could take weeks after the tornado caused damage along Country 76 Boulevard. Six theaters and 22 hotels and motels were among the buildings damaged.

But Mayor Raeanne Presley says much of Branson had little or no damage and most shows and attractions are open.

No one was killed in Branson, but about three dozen people were hurt.
