Authorities in and around the Wichita area are urging motorist to use caution during the early morning hours, as slick conditions have caused numerous accidents.
The temperature in Wichita dropped to a frigid 29 degrees before sunrise. As frost began to form on elevated roadways, they became slick and have caused a growing number of crashes.
Several people were taken to local hospitals with potentially serious injuries throughout the morning, but the majority of accidents were relatively minor.
The Kansas Department of Transportation has been treating the affected bridges and overpasses and asks that drivers exercise caution during their commute.
