VIRGINIA BEACH (AP) -- Officials say there's minor cosmetic damage to one of the trestles of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel caused by two barges that lost anchorage Monday morning.
Tom Anderson, deputy director of the bridge-tunnel, says the trestle was struck around 6:20 a.m. Monday. He says one barge was carrying rocks and the other was carrying heavy equipment. He believes weekend storms caused the barges to lose
anchorage and they were swept into the trestle.
There was no traffic on the span at the time.
The span was closed for several hours until repairs were completed.
