Strong Storms Moving Out Of KAKEland

8:30 p.m. The strong storms that have been moving across Southern Kansas are out of the KAKE viewing area. There are no storm warnings at this time. Storms with heavy rain are still in the SE part of Kansas.

Managing Meteorologist Jay Prater said there is a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm the remainder of the evening.

No damage has been reported after a tornado touched down in rural Kiowa County four miles northwest of Greensburg. The brief tornado was reported just before 7:00 p.m.

7:10 p.m. A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Northern Cowley and SE Butler Counties. Golf ball sized hail is possible.

6:45 p.m. Tornado warning issued for Kiowa County. The storm is north of Mullinville, moving to the southeast.

6:00 p.m. update: Strong storms have been developing east of Wichita, south of the Kansas-Oklahoma border, and in Ford County in SW Kansas.

A tornado watch has been issued for much of Southern Kansas, including the Wichita area until 10:00 p.m. Cities in the watch area include Wichita, El Dorado, Newton and Hutchinson. For more info, click on the link below.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 3:00 p.m. for much of Central and Eastern Kansas. The Wichita area is not included in the watch area. Cities in the watch area include Salina and McPherson.

A severe weather outbreak is possible, especially this afternoon, for much of KAKEland.

KAKEland Meteorologist Blake Smith says the greatest chance will be from Wichita to Salina and over to Hays and Great Bend.

There is a higher potential for tornadoes than we have seen in quite a while.

A warm front is moving back into the area, which could be the focal point for the storms.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of Central and Northern Kansas under a Moderate risk for severe weather through the evening.
