Central Kansas Hit By Strong Storms

Storms with large hail, heavy rain and lightning moved through Central Kansas Friday.

Sedgwick County dispatchers report five house fires in Wichita, possibly started by lightning.

At 7:25, Westar reported 1,249 Sedgwick County customers without power.

KAKEland Storm Chaser Jared Cerullo reported a shelf cloud two miles west of Goddard at 5:30 p.m. Cerullo said the storm is not an organized wall cloud, the type more likely to produce a tornado.

Severe storms developed in Central Kansas Friday afternoon. There were reports of tennis ball sized hail as the storm passed through the Hutchinson area around 4:00 p.m. More tennis ball sized hail was reported north of Penalosa.
