The cold weather is causing problems for area students.
A water main break has caused schools in Otis-Bison USD 403 to dismiss at 12:30 p.m. today. There is no water and no heat in the schools. Sports teams will not practice tonight, and the elementary school concert has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 7:00
Sharon Springs schools are also dealing with a water main break. K-12 classes will dismiss at 12:30 Mountain time.
USD 266 Maize started two hours late today. A district spokesperson says drivers are having problems starting their buses.
A sharp cold front made its way into northwest Kansas early Sunday morning and streamed across the state throughout the day. Behind the front, the winds became very strong out of the north at 20 to 30 mph with wind gusts up to 40 mph.
The temperature dropped to -10 in Goodland.
Temperatures fell sharply behind the front. Much of Southern Kansas saw Sunday high temperatures around 9 a.m. with temperatures falling for the rest of the day.
By late afternoon, southern Kansas saw temperatures in the upper 20s and northern Kansas saw temperatures in the teens.
When the gusty north winds are factored in, wind chill readings are well below zero across much of the state this morning.
The cold air will stick with us through much of the work week also. Temperatures this morning will range from the single digits to the lower teens across KAKEland with highs only in the teens and lower 20s.
