Parts of New York state are under a winter storm warning, and advisories are posted in parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Vermont, as the first major dose of winter weather blasts through sections of the northeast.
In northwestern Pennsylvania, they're bracing for lake effect snow, with 4 to 8 inches possible and up to a foot in higher elevations.
Thousands of utility customers in upstate New York and New Jersey are dealing with power outages. More than a foot of wet, heavy snow fell in those regions yesterday and toppled tree limbs and power lines.
In Pennsylvania, parts of the Poconos have a foot of snow or more.
More snow and wind is in today's forecast in Vermont.
