Bill Could Allow Smoking In Kansas Bars
- Posted By: Anon: Rick,
Please, we beg of you, go back to elementary school.
It's a BAN not a BAND! No WONDER you lost your business. It wasn't the smoking BAN, people couldn't handle your level of pure stupid! You have several other errors but those are really not as bad as using a word that has a totally different meaning. Ban: to restrict or deny
Band: a musical group, a group of marauders, an elastic ring!
- Posted By: anonyomus: Yes, smoking is nasty and I really do not like dining at a public restraunt choking on someone elses smoke rings! However, the government enacting laws that exempt their establishments is clearly wrong! Even though I dispise cigarette smoke, the law they enacted was very biased. If you don't enjoy the smoke in an establishment, go elsewhere...when government gets involves they only cater to themselves.
- Posted By: No Butts: Smoking is nasty!! It makes you, your home everything about you stinks!! And also the Butts trashing up the streets is low life too!!
- Posted By: Patrick: I hope it passes. Since they stopped the smoking in bars my wife and I have been going out more. If they start smoking again I will save around $600 a month not going to the bars. I do believe that state owned casinos employees and customers should not be forced to inhale second hand smoke just because of a bias written law.
- Posted By: Rick: I use to smoke quit 2 years ago. I use to own a night club burned down a year ago. I don't miss the smokey bar but, I watch my sales go down by 35% when the smoking band took affect smoking in bars does affect business period. It's not right that casinos can have smoking but other businesses cannot. Either band smoking completely no exceptions or let the businesses decide what they want for business. The law they have now is unconstitutional and the law- makers know it.
- Posted By: DM: That's ok... pass it... so I and 1000's of other non smokers will stop going to your establishments so you may cater to the 5 people that cant control their habit...
- Posted By: : This is why the government has no business in legislating vices, or what a person chooses to do to themselves. I haven't been to a bar since the original bill passed, and won't be going so long as the government insists on telling business owners what their patrons are or aren't allowed to do.
- Posted By: Ray: If people smoke in a bar big deal, if they don't big deal, let the people decide not the STATE!!!
- Posted By: peed off: And I have a right not to have to die, cause I'm working the bar your smoking in just so I can feed my family. the ban it protecting employees not you smokers.
- Posted By: anonymous: I'm a nonsmoker, but then no smoking law the state passed only allowing their casinos to permit smoking while other establishments could not IS A HYPOCRITICAL LAW ENACTED BY A BUNCH OF HYPOCRITES! If the smoking in an establishment bothers me, that establishment does not get my repeat business-it's that simple!
- Posted By: DinICt: I think smoking should also be banned in casinos! It makes no sense that they are immune to this law. I a former smoker but several of my friends still smoke and they have adjusted to the new law. As a matter of fact I only know one smoker who allows smoking in their home!
- Posted By: anonymous: I do not go to state own casinos because they allow smoking, I am a smoker. I don't think it's right that they allow smoking and bars cannot. Why should the casinos get my money? And if I want to have a night out with friends we have to stand in the cold to smoke. I would rather give the bars my money rather than the casinos.
- Posted By: Monty: The original law concerning this subject passed last year banned smoking in all public establishments except the state owned casino's. This I believe was the states discrimination against small businesses. The new adminement proposal allowing bar smoking is only to cover the state law makers butts. It is disigned because their casino's might lose business if smaking should have to be banded.
- Posted By: David: Each bar owner should be the one to decide if smoking should be allowed or not in their bar.
- Posted By: T: I'm a strong opponent of smoking bans, but I have gotten used to the smoking ban. I think you will probably find that if this law does pass that many bars will choose to remain non-smoking. I wouldn't mind going to non-smoking places at all. I don't NEED to smoke inside, and I'm fine with taking outside. That said, it is not the government's job to tell a business owner what LEGAL things are allowed in their establishment. It's been said time and time again, but if you can make the choice to destroy your liver by walking into a place, then maybe you shouldn't be the one to whine and complain that the smoke is irritating and smells bad. I think smoking bars and non-smoking bars can coexist. There's plenty of market out there for both!!
- Posted By: Frank: This move to go back to smoking in kansas will be posted in all states and again makes topeka kan look redneck and proberly with again get on the leno and letterman shows. No state has ever went backwards on the smoking ban. Read the book best seller "WHAT'S Wrong WITH KANSAS" then you will see why other states think that we are nutty "REDNECKS" HERE WE GO AGAIN TOPEKA! Remember you voted these people in! Leno and Letterman you have all of us again by the "NECK"! Frank Black not born here THANK GOD!
- Posted By: c: People complain about smelling like smoke after hanging out at a bar... but you don't mind smelling like you just sampled every perfume and cologne at the mall... and you also don't mind smelling like beer or whiskey... or hey what about when the clubs fill the room with fog from a smoke machine... that has a smell too. why not just stay home if "smelling bad" is an issue...
- Posted By: : I am a smoker and did not agree with the law at first, but it is nice to be able to go have dinner or drinks and not be engulfed in smoke as soon as you walk in the door. Bars have spent ALOT of money to facilitate us smokers. Non smokers should be able to go out and not have to pay for our choices. Let the law stand.
- Posted By: sharon: I think it should be allowed in bars just like at casino.I dont smoke but I dont see anything wrong I would sit next to a smoker if you can not handle the smoke stay home when i am it the casino its filtered so good it does not bother me. pass the law let the bars have smoking allowed this is free country....
- Posted By: Guest: This is plain stupid. Like a yo yo .I thought the law was for health purposes. But now we find out that if it doesn't benefit the state then its no good.
- Posted By: KSU: This smells like the same under the back hand table dealing that got Mudville the right to zig-zag.It has been shown that those good businesses are doing better than before only ones who are not happy are the GUN & KNIFE dives. Take it out of the CASINO sure would save alot of water.....
- Posted By: Ike: GO FOR IT! Business owners should not be told how to run their business. It's very simple....if you don't like "smoke" then damit don't go there!! The owners are not dragging you in (by force) off the street.
- Posted By: Kansan: The Government at all levels needs to learn to stay out of private lives and business. they do not control the world and need to learn that. What I do in my business or mome is my business, If I want to allow smoking in my place of business that is my business, if you don;t like go elswhere. Remeber while you are favoring smoking bans just remember when a group wants to ban fried foods because its fattening and unhealthy they can do that right down into your own home. So think twice before you give them too much power or you will soon be under total control and will only be able to do what the government says. Time to revamp our entire nation back into a place of freedom instead of a dictatorship.
- Posted By: : Bowling? Gave it up. Pool too. If I cannot smoke, they do not get my business. Know what is fun? Order a meal. Wait until JUST about time for it to arrive. Then light up. Get told I cannot smoke and walk out just as the food arrives!
- Posted By: Z: If they allow smoking in State owned Casinos then they need to allow it in bars. Dont have two sets of rules. I see a lot of non-smokers in the casinos and not crying about the smoke, so get over it in bars. If you dont like the smoke then dont go into the bars that allow smoking!!! Im tired of listening to all you non-smokers crying! I have rights to.
- Posted By: : kansas lawmakers are ridiculous totally, make a law and then decide to overturn it just cos people want it banned in the casinos so here's there answer instead of standing up for people to stay healthly. Idiots all of them!
- Posted By: Andrea: This has casino all over it! If this happens, voters need to make major changes in who they vote for.
- Posted By: Bob: The best law Kansas ever passed was banning smoking public places like bars and restaurants. I'm a smoker and I agree with the law of banning in public places. I'm being facetious, I'm not a smoker, but when you someone say "I'm not a smoker but", you know then they're a smoker.
- Posted By: tom: Ha.. the Shamrock isn't worth $80,000 even if you counted all the cars of the patrons! But the law sucks.
- Posted By: : Should NOT be allowed. It is great to be able to go to a bar and not leave smelling like an ashtray. Time to get OSHA involved. Employees should have a safe environment to work in.
- Posted By: : It doesn't matter. Personally I am sick of the militant anti-smokers. I just don't go anywhere. That means I don't spend any money at your place whether we can smoke or not. It's not my problem. You can thank the do-gooders. They proved that liberties can be abridged.
- Posted By: anonymous: I am a smoker and think if would be great if bars allowed people to smoke inside, but I can see where other people who don't smoke do not want the issue to pass. I am also glad most bars have beer gardens (enclosed patio's) so that even if smoking is allowed back inside that during the warmer months if you want to go outside for some fresh air you can take your beer with you
- Posted By: Former Smoker: I strongly believe that this not a "rights" thing or a "free country" issue like people are trying to make it out to be. It was documented a long time ago that asbestos is a carcinogen so it's use was outlawed and a lot of it has been removed. It has also been documented that cigarette smoke is not only a carcinogen to the person smoking but also other people in the area breathing second hand smoke and we want to make it legal again in bars??? I don't think so!
- Posted By: Jonny dearing: you can smoke at the new casino that the "state" Owens but not in locally owned bars....whats not right here?
- Posted By: B: Doesn't matter to me, I've adjusted. I smoke after I leave the restaurants and smoke an electronic cig if I go to a club. The look on peoples faces when I do that is priceless.
- Posted By: Ex-Smoker: Nicotine is the MOST addictive drug known to man. It has been nice going into any public establishment and being able to breathe. Sometimes laws are created to protect us from ourselves and this is one of them.

- Posted By: joe: I love finally being able to go out to eat and get a drink and not smell like an ash tray when I get home. If you want to smoke, stay at home and do it inside your own home. There are more non-smokers than smokers.
- Posted By: Marie: I think as far as bars go it should be allowed as only adults should be in there and it's a choice if they enter or not. Anywhere children are as in a restaurant then no. I don't think children should be in bars anyway.
- Posted By: Eric: It is about time. Bar owners should have the right to choose whether or not they allow smoking. As long as it is posted then patrons can make the choice to go in or not.

- Posted By: peeed off: Only reason they want to change it back is so they don't have to ban smoking in the casinos
I should also have the freedom to be able to go out with friends and not have to come home smelling like cigarettes. Leave the law in place and ban it in casinos, the no somkers will come back to the casinos, it suppose to be protecting health allowing it again isn't protecting nothing but there state casino
- Posted By: JJ: I am not a smoker but strongly feel it should be allowed. This is supposed to be a free country! We do not need a law for every darn thing that offends someone.
- Posted By: : Local jurisdictions can, have, and will ban smoking as they did before it went statewide----not a chance of the bill passing. Who is anyone trying to kid?
