Thousands of Kansas kids will have Thanksgiving dinner next week without one critical thing, a family to call their own. One of those children is a sweet, soft-spoken animal lover named Mariah.
Mariah and Susan recently visited a Wichita animal shelter together. Mariah says she wanted to go to the shelter so she could see the abandoned animals, hold them and make them feel loved.
Mariah is a freshman in high school and has been in foster care much of her life. At 16, she already knows what she wants to be when she grows up. She spends a lot of time drawing dresses and hopes to someday be a fashion designer.
But first, Mariah wants something even bigger. She wants a forever home and a family of her own.
