Patrick Mahomes gives teen cancer survivor the game ball before Sunday’s Chiefs gamePosted: Updated:
A young Chiefs fan got the surprise of a lifetime on Sunday when his favorite quarterback handed him the game ball.
WDAF reports 14-year-old Lane Cunningham, of Louisburg, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when he was 9 months old. He beat it and has been cancer free for 12 years now.
The Chiefs invited Lane and his family to Sunday's thrilling playoffs game against the Texans. The teen was nominated to represent a local childhood cancer awareness nonprofit during pre-game activities and was even introduced on the field.
They all got to stand on the sideline and meet Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt, three Chiefs Hall of Fame players and Kansas City native Eric Stonestreet.
And before the start of the game, all the players lined up to give high-fives. At the end of the line was Patrick Mahomes to hand Lane the game ball.
