WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Dozens of people had to stay away from their homes after an apartment complex fire Friday night in east Wichita.

Fire crews rushed to Eastborough Apartments, located in the 7000 block of east Kellogg, and found smoke coming from a building at the apartment complex. The fire started in a shared laundry room in the basement of one building, and the main electrical system was affected, said Wichita Fire Department Capt. Mike Crosby.

Most of the 20 to 30 residents found a place to stay, but the American Red Cross is assisting people.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation. Crosby said the arson unit was on scene to look into what happened.
