East Carolina gave Wichita State all they had, but the Shockers avoided the upset, winning 75-69.

WSU jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the opening minutes but the Pirates clawed their way back into the game and actually took a 1 point lead with 12 minutes left in the game.

The Shockers were aided by leading scorer Erik Stevenson who finished with 17 points, Jamarius Burton also had 15.

Dexter Dennis made a triumphant return to Koch Arena for the second half. He received a standing ovation as he made his way from the tunnel to the Wichita State bench.

"He arrived back in town this morning," Head Coach Gregg Marshall said after the game. "I got a call from his Mom so they put him on a plane this morning. We're going to sit down and talk this afternoon at my home. He looked good. It's good to see him. Says he's ready to go tomorrow. We're pleased he's back and we'll see how much he's been working out since he's been home. Supposedly he's got his hip problem fixed so physically I think he's ready to go."

The Shockers host Ole Miss on Saturday. Tip-off is 3 pm.
