WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A power outage affecting more than 6,000 Evergy customers in east and northeast Wichita was caused by a squirrel.

The outage occurred Wednesday morning and initially knocked out power for nearly 6,200 Evergy customers. The number was down to 3,775 by 10:50 a.m., and most customers had power restored by noon.

An Evergy spokesperson said a squirrel had gotten into a substation and caused the outage.
