Crime Stoppers hoping to prevent holiday crime

Posted: Updated:

The Wichita-Sedgwick County Crime Stoppers say vehicle break-ins always rise this time of year.  Safety committee members handed out flyers on Saturday morning with tips on how to prevent holiday crime.

"Put it in the trunk, you know, don't leave things in plain view, it may not even be the gift, it may be a cell phone or something else you leave in the car that is attractive to a thief," says Stacey Kluge, Crime Stoppers Chairman.

Kluge wants to remind the public to keep your keys with you and always pay attention to your surroundings, "when the cars become vulnerable, then so do the people and so it's just an extra precautionary time and we just want to make sure everybody takes the steps they need to be safe."

If you see suspicious activity during the holidays or any time, you're asked to call 9-1-1 or crime stoppers at 267-2111.
