Man arrested in deadly Wichita shooting

Wichita police have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man over the weekend. 

Jail records show 20-year-old Carver Soliman was booked Saturday afternoon for second-degree murder and aggravated battery. 

The shooting happened at around 5:40 that morning at a home near Lincoln and Main streets. Police spokesperson Charley Davidson said the victim, John Buess-Wheeler, of Augusta, had been shot in the chest and later died at a local hospital.

Police said in a news release that a 25-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and drove himself to the hospital. 

The investigation revealed there was a physical disturbance between Soliman, Buess and the 25-year-old male who are known to each other," Officer Davidson said in a news release. "During the disturbance, Soliman fired a handgun, fatally wounding Buess and striking the 25-year-old victim in the arm."

Officers located Soliman in the home and arrested him without incident. Davidson said the shooting is believed to be drug related.

A shooting early Saturday morning has injured two people. 

Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of S. Main near Lincoln and Main around 5:40 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

A second victim, a 25-year-old male, drove himself to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The shooting came about after a disturbance between three people on the scene. The two victims knew each other.

Police are working to notify the family of the man who died. They have not elaborated on any pending charges.
