Last minute Thanksgiving shopping

Posted: Updated:

The time for last minute holiday shopping arrived Thursday morning in Wichita as several people took to the isles to get things for their Thanksgiving meals.

"It's great because I did forget a couple things, so I'm going to pick up some snacks," said Marsha Sears, a shopper in the Wichita Sprouts store.

Marsha Sears said it was important to pick up whatever she could off the Sprouts shelves to help her with what she believes is becoming a Thanksgiving tradition.

"Everything," she said. "Turkey, dressing, mashed potato's, cranberry sauce."

Over the past two to three years, she said she has gotten together with her friends from church for Thanksgiving. The reason being, because they don't have anywhere else to go with no family in town.

"I'm thankful for my friends, it's heartwarming," Sears said. "I'm glad nobody is spending the day by themselves."

Sprouts had some holiday deals going, including one where people could earn 10 percent off their entire purchase if they preordered their Thanksgiving meal by November 22. With that in place, things sold quickly.

"This year I sold out of precooked turkey meals, sold out of spiral ham meals, I also sold out of vegan meals," said Ashley Powell, the stores deli department manager.

Sears said she was dealing with a sick dog at home so she didn't have time to get her order in. So, once Sprouts restocked the shelves, she came in and bought all she needed to be included in the spread on the table.

"We'll have plenty to eat," Sears said. "I'll make turkey tetrazzini with the left overs."
