WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

One person is dead after a police chase ended in a fiery crash in east Wichita.

Wichita police tell KAKE News that an officer spotted a car driving erratically just before 1 a.m. Thursday near Kellogg and Edgemoor. When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, the driver took off, crashed and the vehicle rolled before catching fire.

Police had to wait for firefighters to extinguish the fire and found one person dead inside the car.

Officers said the car had been reported stolen.

Authorities shut down traffic on Edgemoor, between Douglas and Kellogg, for several hours to investigate. The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the crash because a Wichita police officer was involved in the incident.

The name of the person who died has not been released. The investigation is ongoing.

No one else was injured.
