EMPORIA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities say a 32-year-old man from Wichita was struck and killed while along the Kansas Turnpike near Emporia.

Troopers were called just before 6 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a person walking on the white line of north I-35 just south of Emporia. Another driver called moments later about a person lying in the roadway at that location.

Lt. John Lenherr with the Kansas Turnpike Authority said troopers arrived and found that the man had been hit by a vehicle and died at the scene. He was identified as Brandon James Henderson.

The Kansas Highway Patrol described the vehicle as a freight truck. Lenherr said the 53-year-old driver is cooperating with law enforcement.

The patrol's crash log did not give any clues as to why Henderson was walking along the interstate.
