Prosecutors have charged three people with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy in Wichita.

Eduardo Gallardo made his first court appearance on Monday and was also charged with criminal discharge of a firearm. He remains held on $500,000 bond.

Two other suspects, 20-year-old Jesus Alvarez-Medina and a juvenile, who was 15 at the time of the shooting, are also charged with first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm, according to the Sedgwick County DA's office

The shooting happened early on Sunday, August 4 in the 900 block of East Central. Police alleged that 17-year-old Ramiro Valdez was driving a blue pickup when a black pickup driven by Gallardo began following him.

Someone in Gallardo's pickup allegedly fired a rifle multiple times, striking Valdez.

Following the incident, Capt. Brent Allred with the Wichita Police Department said the shooting was "in reference to an ongoing gang feud."

Valdez's family disputed that he was a gang member. He was about to start his senior year at North High School.
