Meet Carl, the dog helping patients at Wesley Children's Hospital

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Visits to the hospital can be tough, especially for kids. But one in Wichita is trying to make visits a little happier, and they've got some four-legged help to do it.

Carl is the new therapy dog at Wesley Children's Hospital. He was introduced Monday after he completed special training.

Carl will be with child patients during what would normally would be scary procedures like CT scams or when having their vitals taken. Hospital staff hope Carl will make kids feel a little more comfortable.

"Dogs are just really great about making a calm environment, taking the stress away," said Casey Carr with Wesley Medical Center, "so bringing the dog into that stressful environment helps take away some of the tension."

Carl's expenses were pair for by the Kansas Children's Foundation. They received a grant request last year and have worked to make Carl's time at the hospital possible.
