WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Kansans have apparently done their homework, a new study says.

SafeHome.org released a study on Friday that says Kansas is the 7th smartest state in the United States.

SafeHome says it used the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Department of Education, the College Board and ACT to compile its scores.

Here's how the study says we break down:

  • Adults 25 and older with a bachelor's degree: 21%
  • Kansas high school graduation rate: 87%
  • Average SAT score: 1,241
  • Average percentage of ACT takers meeting subject benchmarks: 51%

Kansas received a final score of 273. The top ranking state, New Jersey had a score of 337.8 making it the smartest state in the nation. The least smartest state, according to the study, is Idaho.

"The average score by region was mostly pretty evenly split, though the West had by far the lowest average score, owing largely to Idaho’s poor performance," SafeHome said.
