Wichita celebrates Quadricentennial

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Hundreds of people gathered in east Wichita on Sunday at the Calvary United Methodist Church for a special show and history lesson. The Quadricentennial is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize african american history in the united states.

400 years of african american history and culture in the united states- starting with slavery in 1619. A performance from the award-winning arise music group with the crowd rising to their feet.

"We exist to encourage people to sing the spirituals, to know the stories behind the spirituals, because in there, is your american history." says Dr. Sharon Hill Cranford, President of Arise Inc.

An inspiring moment from the Buckner Performing Arts Drumline brought even more excitement to the event.

If you would like more information on where you can catch the next Arise performance, you can visit their Facebook page.
