Police arrest 4th suspect in deadly shooting at Wichita motel

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Police have arrested a fourth suspect in the fatal shooting of a 55-year-old man outside a Wichita motel.

Jail records show 57-year-old Cassell Peterson was booked Wednesday afternoon for first-degree murder in commission of a felony and possession of a controlled substance. He was held on $100,000 bond. 

Three more suspects, 49-year-old Bryant Bailey, 52-year-old Robyn Murphy and 60-year-old Annette Williams, were charged Wednesday with first-degree murder. Bailey also faces a charge of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon. 

Wichita police say Timothy Austin was shot and killed early Sunday in the parking lot of the Countryside Inn in the 800 block of South Broadway. Investigators believe the shooting was drug related.

Wichita police have arrested three suspects in the fatal shooting of a 55-year-old man in the parking lot of a motel. 

Jail records show 49-year-old Bryant Bailey, 52-year-old Robyn Murphy and 60-year-old Annette Williams were booked Sunday evening. Bailey was jailed for first-degree murder, failure to comply and a parole violation. Murphy and Williams were each held on one count of first-degree murder in commission of a felony.  

The shooting happened at around 5:15 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Countryside Inn near Kellogg and Broadway. Officers arrived to find the victim, identified as Timothy Austin, with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He died at a local hospital. 

Police said that Austin had been involved in a disturbance with the suspects who were in a vehicle in the parking lot. Someone inside the vehicle fired a shot, striking Austin. Investigators believe the shooting was drug related. 

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Bailey is on parole for attempted robbery. He also has prior convictions of domestic battery (3rd conviction within 5 years), attempted aggravated sexual battery, attempted aggravated assault, aggravated battery and making a false writing. 

Murphy has prior forgery and drug possession convictions from the early 2000s, and Williams has prior drug convictions from the early 1980s.
