Crews respond to fire at Rice Co. egg production facility

RICE COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) -

Crews have put out a large fire at an egg production facility in Rice County.

The incident happened at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Fire crews responded to a fire at Cal-Maine Foods at 625 Avenue K, Just northwest of Chase.

Authorities say winds were picking up to 30 mph as firefighters battled the flames for nearly 6 hours. The fire was able to be contained to one building that was used to house hens. 

The area was blocked off for safety. No injuries were reported and investigators have not determined a cause at this time.
