Update: The fire has been contained.

High winds and low humidity made fire-fighting difficult east of Hutchinson this afternoon.

The grass fire was called in just before 2:00 p.m. near east Mourn Road. Several fire crews from neighboring towns helped to put out the blaze: Hutchinson, Nickerson, Haven, Halstead, and Buhler. Reno County dispatchers confirmed that the task force was activated to assist with the fire.

Nobody needed to evacuate, but they were alerted of the fire. So far, there are no reports of injuries.

Officials urged people to avoid the area to give emergency vehicles room to operate.

Other grass fires have been reported along US highway 77 near El Dorado, north of Park City and also in Towanda.
