Team of the Week: Andale Indians

Posted: Updated:

Andale has been one of the top teams in 3A the entire season and they proved it once again on Friday night against Clearwater.

"You know they are a league opponent and they have a great football team," said head coach Dylan Schmidt. "Cash is an incredible player. Our kids wanted to show what we were all about and we feel like we have some players too."

The Indians raced out to a commanding 35-0 halftime lead in large part to an opportunistic defense who forced 4 first half turnovers.

"We had great preparation," Eli Rowland said. "We’ve been watching film on them daily. Coming in early before school. I think we just had a great game plan coming into it and it obviously showed."

Rowland had a career night for Andale. The junior scored two touchdowns at running back and intercepted Clearwater quarterback Tanner Cash three times all in the first half.

"Coach gave us this big speech about a kid who in Week 9 had zero interceptions on the team and then that game he had five interceptions," Rowland said. "I kind of put myself in his shoes like if I really focus I could accomplish that too and got pretty close."

The victory kept the Indians undefeated record in tact along with advancing to the sectional round. As dominant as Andale has been this season, they’ve amped it up a notch in the playoffs.

"Coach let us know we had to get more fired up because sometimes before games we were coming out flat," Rowland told KAKE. "These past two games Against Clay Center and Clearwater we’ve had some more intensity coming in and it showed."

The Indians didn’t celebrate this victory too long. Beloit awaits them this Friday.

"I hope our kids are excited about obviously the preparation and everything that’s involved and understand our long term goal is to play them all," Schmidt said. " I hope they keep that in mind and understand what we’re after."
