Wichita police have arrested a suspect in connection to the fatal shooting of a teen near McAdams Park on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Charley Davidson said 18-year-old Malick Garrett was arrested for second-degree murder and for outstanding warrants.

Officers responded to a shooting call in the 1400 block of North Ohio just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, 15-year-old Marion Wheaton was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators revealed that Wheaton and his 15- and 16-year-old male friends walked to the area to meet with another group of teens to allegedly fight over an ongoing dispute. As Wheaton and his friends entered the area, a vehicle approached.

Police allege Garrett and a 15-year-old male got out of the vehicle and Garrett fired multiple shots from a handgun, striking Wheaton.

Police say this was not a random incident and multiple guns were recovered during the investigation.
