Wichita middle school on alert after shooting threat online

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A Wichita middle school is on alert after an alleged shooting threat is made on social media.

Truesdell Middle School parents were notified Sunday, as people were sharing their concerns online.

“Even though we believe the threat isn’t true, we will have Wichita Police and school security officers at the school on Monday as a precaution. We will conduct a normal school day tomorrow,” Principal Vicki Manning said in a message sent out to parents.

Several parents contacted KAKE News. saying the are worried about what they've seen.

Scarlett Mork said she’s seen posts of conversations between students, talking about the threat of a school shooting. In one post, a student said they’re afraid to go to school due to a shooting threat.

Mork said the school has had issues with violence. In December 2016, a Truesdell Middle School student fired a handgun at a bus stop. Police investigated if the gun was on the bus and brought to school.

“Parents, please continue to tell your students to think carefully about what they post on social media, and what they share, which can perpetuate rumors,” Manning said.
