Wins for Kansas: Wichita Children's Theatre and Dance Center

Posted: Updated:

For more than 40 years, Wichita Children's Theatre and Dance Center has given kids a feel for the spot light. But it's not just about the performance.

"I think a lot of people think that children get into theatre to make it to Broadway. And we don't encourage that at all. Although we do have several that are there now. But our mission is to make them feel self-confident,” says executive director, Monica Flynn.

Kids can start as young as two, and this non-profit theatre works to make sure their students shine on and off the stage

"I always tell my teachers, 'Please make sure that they feel better about themselves when they go out the door than they did when they came in.’ Just to give them the ability to raise their hand in class and not be nervous about it. Or to be able to stand up in church and read a passage,” says Flynn.

With shows running all year, some even include adults, providing a hobby the whole family can enjoy.

"It's a great family atmosphere and we hope that we emit that to the community and to everyone that comes through our doors.”

To help with their mission, KAKE TV and our partners, DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers are honored to them as this week's “Wins for Kansas.”
