Athlete of the Week: Andale's Morgan Bruna

Andale volleyball has had a season to remember. The Indians enter the state tournament at 35-2 thanks in part to the play of senior Morgan Bruna.

“She can serve tough, she passes tough, she brings the fire to the court, she’s loud,” said head coach Kaylie Bergkamp. “They joke around that she plays angry and her parents have two t-shirts that say that which is pretty cool. she does a really good job of that.”

Bruna plays two positions for Andale. Middle Blocker and Outside Hitter. It’s a challenge she relishes.

“Right before every play I call out where people are going so my mind knows where I’m going so I call that our for everybody,” Bruna tells KAKE. “It helps me as a middle blocker know where they are going and what I’m doing next so that really helps me calling everything out before the play even happens.”

“She has a unique ability to hit in all three spots,” Bergkamp said. “ I think that’s why she scores like she does. She’s not afraid to swing for shots things like that.”

One of her greatest strengths is her experience. She’s been a part of the varsity team for almost all of her high school career.

“I was on varsity as a sophomore so I kind of got the feel of being a leader there but junior year and senior year I had to lead the team as a group and encourage everybody,” Bruna said. “I just feel like it kind of came up throughout the whole season as a team.”

The Indians are the 1 seed in the 4A bracket at State. Bruna and her teammates want to finish what they started last season.

“We have a great connection and we keep that and we keep encouraging throughout our whole game and throughout the whole season,” Bruna.  “I think we have a great connection and we have a great shot at the state championship.”
